Each year San Antonio celebrates Fiesta for 9 days. Hundreds of companies, clubs and organizations create Fiesta medals to distribute during the 9 days of Fiesta. This year, the San Antonio SPURS, the nation's finest NBA team, selected Successories of Texas to design and manufacture their 2011 Fiesta medal.
The votes are in! And WOAI Channel 4 (NBC) announced the top 4 vote-getters for this year's "BEST FIESTA MEDAL". We are proud to say that our SPURS medal was included in the top 4 highest vote-getters.
We want to thank Kenny Hartmann, Procurement Manager for the SPURS, for allowing us to be part of their Fiesta experience. The medal can be seen on our web-site, in the Challenge Coin section.

How to present an award - Maximizing the Impact
How to present an award – maximizing the impact of your awards program
If you are reading this article you most likely already know the importance of recognizing your employees for outstanding efforts. The need for recognition is one of your employees’ most basic needs. People want to know they are needed and valued. They want to know they make a difference. That’s why most organizations implement a formal recognition program.
Done correctly, the presentation of your award can do much more for your organization that just recognize one person’s achievements. A well-planned award presentation can help you take your team to new levels of performance.
Before your next awards presentation – consider the following:
--The recipient worked very hard to earn the recognition. Be sure that the presentation itself makes an impact. (see ideas for presenting the award below). -- Recognizing an award winner sends a message to everyone else on your team – this is the type of performance we are seeking. – Awards also let your team members know that management respects and acknowledges excellent performance. Your organization has standards – award recipients have exceeded those standards.
Steps to insure maximum impact from your next awards presentation:
1) Notify all team members well in advance of the awards ceremony time and date. Remember: you are not only recognizing an individual or small group of people – you are also setting the tone for performance within your entire team.
2) Consider inviting the recipients’ families. Do not underestimate the impact it will have on the recipient to have you praise them in front of their family. If you do invite family – be sure to thank them during the ceremony for their support of your team’s mission.
3) Have someone on your team take photos. Photos send a message that this is an event to remember! You can post them in the office break-room or give them to the recipient later.
4) Begin the presentation by giving a brief history of the award. Why are you choosing to recognize this person? Is there a history to the award? What is the significance of winning? What are the criteria? Do this before you bring the recipients to the front of the room – some people feel awkward standing at the front for longer than necessary.
5) Introduce the recipient. You can tell why the person was chosen at this time. Be sure to mention their specific actions, their record of achievement. Be detailed and specific about their performance. This is the kind of performance you want repeated within your team. You can be brief about everything else – but when this moment comes you want to make sure you shine a spotlight on above-average performance. NOTE: If you are brought in to recognize someone who is not a direct report, be sure you know how to pronounce their name correctly. Not only will this save embarrassment, but you don’t want to look like you don’t really know this person, or have never heard of them before!
6) Present the award. Hold the award like it is a precious, invaluable object. This is a symbol of your organization’s thanks for a superior performance. Even if you didn’t spend a lot of money – act like this award is made of gold. It’s also a good idea to make sure the awards are clean and shiny just before the awards ceremony itself.
Take a few moments before your next awards ceremony and follow the 6 steps above. An effective awards program will reward you as much as those you recognize!
